Dr Aruna Muralidhar is a compassionate and empathetic Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with 20 years of rich and varied experience both in India and the UK.

After completing her MD at the prestigious Bangalore Medical College, she trained and worked in the UK for nearly a decade. Whilst in the UK, she worked in world-class hospitals such as Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge and Norwich University Hospital in Norwich, in various subspecialties such as maternal medicine, high-risk pregnancy, benign gynaecology, gynae-oncology and infertility and urogynaecology. She obtained Membership in the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) through her first attempt at the examination. She has been conferred Fellowship from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG) in 2018, in recognition of her contribution to the advancement of the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Her special interests include obstetric critical care, perinatal mental health, conservative gynaecology, adolescent gynaecology, PCOS management, and menopause care.

She strongly believes in holistic, evidence-based and quality care for her patients and is regularly consulted for second opinions. She is a promoter of normal vaginal delivery and fitness around pregnancy and postpartum. She contributed immensely towards evidence and protocol-based practice in her previous position as Associate Director and Senior Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Fortis La Femme.

She is an active member of the Bangalore Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (BSOG) and has served as the Joint Treasurer and thrice as an Executive member. She is also a member of the Guidelines Committee and Community Service Committee in BSOG. She also served as a representative of the AICC-RCOG South Zone and has been the Editor of its quarterly newsletter. She is a member of the Adolescent Health Committee and Medical Disorders Committee of the Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI). She is regularly invited as faculty in zonal, national and international conferences for delivering talks or training in workshops, particularly in Obstetric Critical care and Obstetric Emergency management. Her contribution towards simulation training and emergency training (ASkDO course and Maatru-Jeevaraksha courses) has been much appreciated by KSOGA and FOGSI.

She continues to make time for teaching and training nurses, postgraduates and junior colleagues on varied topics like patient safety, communication and risk management.

Her clinical expertise and compassionate care have been recognised through her recent awards. She has been awarded the Award in Medical Excellence, Karnataka Women Achievers’ Awards (KWAA) in 2023. Other awards and accolades include Inspiring Gynaecologist of South India, ET Healthworld Awards 2018 and a nomination for the Rising Star Award by the Times Healthcare Awards 2018. She has several testimonials and reviews to her credit from her grateful patients.

She is an active Rotarian and has been instrumental in several projects towards community service. Also, being a women-health activist committed towards women’s health and preventive care, she regularly organises women’s health talks and camps through various forums. She is passionate about public awareness and education programmes in schools, colleges, corporate offices and clubs and has conducted over 300 sessions both online and offline since her return to India in 2012. Her talks range from educating on various women’s health problems including cancer screening and prevention, menopause care, adolescent health and sustainable menstruation. She regularly contributes to newspapers and magazines on a variety of women health-related and allied topics. She also has many educational TV programmes and YouTube videos to her credit.

She believes in a balanced life and regularly pursues her hobbies of Carnatic classical music, endurance running, art, poetry and tennis. She has recently authored a book about pregnancy titled Nine Months- the journey of a lifetime- creating waves in the space of women and pregnancy.
