Unfortunately, breast cancer is on the rise in women. Bengaluru is one of the top cities to have a high incidence of breast cancer in India. We have not been able to find exact cause for it, but it seems to be multifactorial disease i.e, having many factors contributing including stress, lifestyle changes, exposure to pollutants and food additives and also family history. It is important to understand that early detection will save lives!
I would recommend a self-breast examination starting in the 20’s or mid 20’s after every period in order to understand how the breast feels In the 30’s, it is important to have clinical examination done either by a gynecologist or a breast specialist. I would recommend mammogram at age of 45 onwards in order to understand whether there is any evidence of an early breast cancer. A sonomammogram may also be done which is ultrasound of breast in order to understand the nature of breast lump, if a breast lump is detected.
Dr Aruna Muralidhar would do FNAC which is fine needle aspiration biopsy in order to ascertain whether or not a lump is benign or cancerous. Kindly seek an appointment if you have any queries in this regard or email at email@example.com
